Network TAPs are devices that provide unobtrusive and invisible access to data flowing through a computer network. Aggregator TAPs provide complete access to full-duplex links with the need for only one NIC or network port.
The EX Aggregator TAP is much more than just an ordinary TAP device. In addition to Tapping and Aggregating Packets, it also acts as a filtering analyzer and a load balancing device to provide a convenient and efficient data collection solution for network security, protocol analyzing and signalling monitoring.
Because of the Physical concept of these types of links, packet aggregation cannot yet be done passively. This means that for any TAP, in a case of a power outage, the live link will always be interrupted. Packet loss isn’t the biggest problem in this case; This interruption time is very critical for networks. The “link down” status can activate protection mechanisms in the network, and could be the starting point of massive network problems.
That is why when designing and building their aggregation TAPs, Austria-based company Cubro focused on ensuring a very short network recovery time. There are Taps on the market which can perform recovery in 45 milliseconds. Cubro’s TAPs have a interruption time of between 30-40 milliseconds! These recovery times are true for both power down and power up cases.
The EX Aggregator Intelligent TAP series provide powerful functions such as intelligent traffic selection and multi-port monitoring, multi-port converging and filtering, and load balancing of the distributed output. These functions are particularly suitable for complex applications with numerous links and large volumes of high density network traffic.
